White Oaks Weekly - December 9, 2018

From the Principal

Dear Families,

Thank you to everyone who was able to make it our annual Holiday Store. I enjoyed being a part of all the excitement as students explored the different gift options and shopped for their loved ones. Yesterday we also revealed the plans for our new playground. If you were unable to join us, take a look at our design here. We are so grateful for the incredible feedback from our parent community and wonderful teachers who helped design our fun, challenging, and safe play structure. Details about our timeline for installation will come soon. See below for information on how to get involved with our playground fundraiser. Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Leah Scholer, Principal

Paint a tile and leave a legacy that will beautify our school while raising money for our new White Oaks playground!
In an effort to raise the remaining $25,000 needed to fund the project, the PTA will be selling art tiles for a permanent art installation on campus. We are selling family tiles and sponsored teacher tiles. Sponsored tiles will be painted by one of our amazing White Oaks staff members.

Tiles cost $125 each and are available in the office through January 31st, or online through our White Oaks PTA Square Store: https://squareup.com/store/whiteoakspta

We will be having tile paint days at Laurel Street Arts. Dates and times will be announced in the new year.

Additional cash donations to the White Oaks PTA to fund this project are welcome after a family has met their annual San Carlos Education Foundation contribution.

PTA Thanks the Holiday Store Team
We'd like to send a huge shout out to Kirsten Kell (Chair), Sara Ting (purchasing), Paulo Dutra (labels), Natalie Joyce (organization), and Kristin Azar (communication) and the dozens of parent volunteers who took home projects to make the gifts, worked at the project parties, and volunteered at the event. It took many hands to create another successful year of shopping fun for our White Oaks students. It takes many hours to pull off this boutique and it's always a delight to see the joy and sense of giving in the children's faces as they choose special gifts for their family and friends. Thank you all so very much for helping us continue this 40+ year tradition!

SCEF News and Events

In Search of Unique Auction Items
Do you have access to a vacation home, event/sports tickets, fine wine/wine tasting or another fun experience? Does a family member or friend work in the entertainment industry? We’d love to hear from you! Our volunteer committee is hard at work creating unique auction items for our March 2019 Starlight Gala & Auction. Write to our events team at [email protected] with your ideas and connections and help make this year the best auction yet.

End of Year Giving
*Donate Early*
As we enter the last weeks of 2018, we invite you to consider making your SCEF Annual Fund donation earlier than usual. Take advantage of possible 2018 tax deductions by making a gift of cash or stock to SCEF before December 31st. As our district faces challenging budget issues, SCEF would like to be able to provide a good estimate of our grant to Superintendent Harmeier and her team by March 30, 2019. Donate now at: www.scefkids.org/donate.

*Double your Donation*
Many employers will match your gift to SCEF. Our handy Double the Donation tool will help you determine if your company has a matching program. Go to www.scefkids.org/donate to learn more.

*Appreciated Stock*
A gift of appreciated stock you've held for more than a year is better than giving cash. If you donate stock that has increased in value since you've owned it - and if you itemize deductions - you can take a charitable deduction for the stock's fair market value on the day you give it away. You'll also avoid capital gains taxes on the increase in value over time. Go to www.scefkids.org/stock to learn how.

Honey Bear Trees
Haven’t bought your Christmas tree yet? Buy your tree and wreath at Honey Bear Trees and SCEF will receive 15% of your purchase price! Bring a copy of the flyer to take advantage of this offer. Tree lot locations and flyer can be found at: www.scefkids.org/hbt
