White Oaks Weekly - October 7, 2018

From the Principal

Dear Families,

We will continue our work in personalizing learning with Goal-setting Conferences this month. This letter will be going home tomorrow in your child's green folder with important details. You will also find this chart which will clarify the type of information you will receive during conferences versus report cards. Here are some highlights:

Our Goals:

  • Increase rigor, student ownership, and engagement to support learning
  • Empower parents with early and ongoing feedback about student progress, as well as resources to help at home
  • Strengthen our students’ foundation for learning, using the SCSD Strategic Plan as our guide

What Parents Can Expect:

  • October 22nd-26th is conference week. All students will attend school from 8:30-12:35.
  • Teachers will share your child’s progress towards building their foundation for learning, which include the 5 C’s and a Mindset for Learning. Evidence may be anecdotal and may be provided via discussion and/or student work
  • Teachers will ask for your input about your child’s goals
  • Teachers also will share information about the goal-setting conversations in the classroom, including the specific goal(s) your child set for him/herself
  • Report cards will be provided in November, March, and June, aligning with our trimester calendar and academic benchmarks.

We look forward to partnering with you in our mission to help our young learners thrive, and we welcome your feedback and questions along the way.

Sincerely,

Leah Scholer, Principal
