Principal’s Message

Dear White Oaks Families,
Thank you so much for joining us at Back to School Night last Tuesday! It was wonderful to see so many of you there. For those who couldn’t make it, I’ve included the slides from my Principal’s presentation. The teachers, staff, and I are truly excited to partner with you this year to ensure your child has a joyful and meaningful school experience.
Over the past two weeks, I had the pleasure of reading BE YOU! by Peter Reynolds to all of our students. This book celebrates individuality and encourages children to embrace who they are, follow their passions, and share their unique gifts with the world. During our read aloud, I also shared a bit about myself—and we had a lot of fun being silly and even dancing the Chicken Dance together!

As the school year begins, we’ve been focusing on helping students settle into routines and build strong classroom communities. Teachers have been making meaningful connections, fostering relationships, and guiding students in learning the White Oaks Way: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe.
Because safety is always our top priority, I want to share a few reminders for drop-off and pick-up:
-
Parking: Fairmont Ave. and both the East and West White Oak Way cul-de-sacs are loading zones only from 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Please do not park in these areas. If you would like to walk your child in, kindly park on another street and be sure not to block neighbors’ driveways.
-
Attendance: Consistent, on-time attendance helps children build lifelong habits for success. Please ensure your child arrives by the warm-up bell at 8:23 a.m., ready for the school day to begin at 8:25 a.m.
Thank you for your support in helping us create a safe, welcoming, and positive learning environment for all of our students. I am so glad to partner with you this year!
Upcoming Events:
-
Monday, 9/01: No School, Labor Day
-
Friday, 9/05: Movie Night at White Oaks
-
Wednesday, 9/10, 5:00: PTA meeting
-
Monday, 9/15: Late Bird/Early Bird schedule starts for Kindergarten
-
Thursday, 9/18: 3:00 p.m., School Site Council Meeting
-
Monday, 9/22: School Photos
In community,
Rosina Tong

Every Day Counts! The Importance of Regular Attendance: Building a Strong Foundation for Success
Did you know that student attendance is one of the strongest predictors of academic success? Missing just 10% of the school year—about 15 days—can have a significant impact on your child’s performance. By 6th grade, chronic absenteeism becomes a major warning sign for potential high school dropout. Let’s work together to ensure your child attends school regularly!
Consistent attendance is crucial for developing strong reading and math skills, establishing positive habits, and laying the groundwork for future success in college and careers. Missing school not only disrupts academic progress but also affects social and emotional growth. If your child is sick, please contact our school administrative assistant. If you’re facing challenges getting your child to school, don’t hesitate to reach out to the Principal—we’re here to help.

Movie night at White Oaks - this Friday!
PTA Family Movie Night – This Friday, September 5
Join us for a fun-filled evening with our school community! Bring your chairs, blankets, and flashlights, and get ready to enjoy a movie under the stars.
Food trucks will be available in the White Oaks cul-de-sac starting around 5:30 p.m., or you’re welcome to bring along a picnic dinner. The PTA will also be providing free popcorn.
Students will be voting on the movie this week, and the winning choice will be shown on a large outdoor screen. The show will begin as soon as it’s dark enough—likely around 7:20 p.m., just before sunset. We explored options for an earlier start time for our younger families, but the cost of special equipment was prohibitive, sadly!
We realize this overlaps with the AYSO soccer event and apologize for the conflict. If you’d like to join us afterward, we’d still love to see you. We’ll take this into account for future planning.
