Principals Message

Dear White Oaks families,

We are jumping right into a fabulous year! It was so heartwarming to see our campus bustling with excitement this past week. It feels so good to have the school alive again with the laughter and chatter of little voices.

Please take some time to browse our website to get to learn more about our school. Remember that Thursday, Aug. 31, is our Back to School Night (parents only). Join me for my Principal’s Welcome from 5:30-5:55 p.m. in the MU and visit your classroom from 6:00-6:30 p.m. (TK-1st) and 6:40-7:10 p.m. (2nd-3rd). Friday, Sept. 1, is a minimum day and dismissal will be 12:25 p.m. for all students.

Welcome Wednesday
This Wednesday, Aug. 30 will be our first Welcome Wednesday of the year! This morning assembly starts promptly at 8:25 - 8:40 am and is not optional for students. Parents are invited to stay and if you are able to join us, please be sure to stand behind the lines of students so everyone can see and hear. Each week, we will share announcements, learn about White Oaks and our students, and sing our school song.

Breakfast and Lunch
Breakfast should be picked up by the child (parent can walk their child directly to the kitchen) starting from 8:15 a.m. until when the bell rings to line up for class at 8:25 a.m. If they grab it right at 8:15 a.m., the child needs to sit at a lunch table and eat before lining up for class-- there is no walking around eating. If they are running behind and grab it right before the bell rings, they should put it in their backpack to eat at snack time.

When Late Birds start, they will go directly to class when they arrive at school. On their way out to snack recess, the teacher will notify the kids to go to the kitchen to pick up their breakfast if they ordered it.

Snack is not provided as part of this program. Please continue to send your child to school with a healthy snack.

Lunch is picked up as usual. On their way to lunch, students need to stop by the kitchen to pick up their food. The child will tell the lunch server their name and they will be given lunch. There is nothing parents need to do, but you can view the menu options here

Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders
You may have noticed a sign at the playground entrance with a "students only" reminder. By asking parents, caregivers, and preschool siblings to stay off the yard, we are able to provide a safe space for active play. Our "students only" routine also allows supervisors to see the children playing and be visible when students need help.

Parking
Please remember that Fairmont Ave. and both the East and West White Oak Way cul de sac are loading zones only and cars are not to park there from 7:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. If you would like to park and walk your child in, please do so on another street. Also, please be aware that you are not blocking any of the neighbors' driveways.

Attendance
Attendance is very important for our elementary school students. Please be sure that your child is at school by the time the bell rings at 8:25 a.m. to get their day started off right!

School Site Council Parent/Community Membership - 1 Position Open
The White Oaks School Site Council consists of 5 parent or community members and 5 staff members, which always includes the principal. Parent and community members are selected through the election process. There are approximately seven meetings scheduled each year. Meetings are usually scheduled on selected Thursdays from 3-4 p.m. via Zoom until further notice. Please refer to the SSC News September 2023 email that will go out on Sept. 14 for more information about White Oaks School Site Council.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Site Council, please email Leah Scholer with a blurb about why you are interested in the position and how you contribute to the Council. If there are more than two people interested, we will hold an election to fill the opening.
