Principals Message

Dear White Oaks Families,

As the end of the school year approaches, families often ask how to support student learning over the summer. Already, you are planning summer experiences that build knowledge, spark curiosity about the world, and help your child gain confidence. Riding bikes, hiking, visiting the public library, playing in the neighborhood, attending summer camps, playing board games as a family, and traveling outside of our city builds knowledge and a sense of wonder.

San Carlos library will be hosting STEAM nights from June 14- Aug. 23 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. For more information please see event details here. You can filter by location and age of children for appropriate events.

Students brought home information and a reading log on the summer library program. This year’s 2023 Summer Learning Challenge, runs from June 1- Aug. 31. The Summer Learning Challenge is a fun -- and FREE -- way to engage youth, families and adults by challenging them to read, explore new activities and learn new skills all summer long. Youth 18 years and younger can participate in the program to earn a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship! Complete the program more than once to increase your chances of winning. Other prizes may be available. For more information or to print another reading log, please visit the San Mateo County Libraries Summer Challenge.

Reading books and discussing them together develops rich language skills and fosters a love of literacy. In addition, the more relaxed summer schedule can be a wonderful time to build independence and confidence at all ages as children learn new skills such as tying shoes and how to contribute to family chores.

Our White Oaks Summer Learning Resources have been compiled with care to keep your student engaged in learning activities throughout the months away from White Oaks.

You may also want to check the list of Best Apps recommended by Common Sense Media and the educational apps your children have been using this year through ClassLink will be available to them through July.

I wish you a wonderful summer full of new memories and time with your family!

Warmest regards,
Leah Scholer
Principal

Join the Holiday Store Committee for Next Year!

Help needed for Holiday Store 2023! We would love your help this summer to start gathering supplies and making the gifts for our White Oaks Holiday Store. We are doing it a little differently by starting earlier and spreading out the gift making so it is not such a rush in the fall. We plan to have a few crafting parties to socialize and make or assemble some of the gifts together. Please reach out to Sara Ting if you'd like to join the committee. We love new ideas and fresh eyes to keep it interesting!

Library Books Are Past Due!

It has been a fantastic year in the White Oaks library with over 8,000 books checked out this school year! All library books were due on June 2. Please contact Katie Gallagher with any questions. Thank you!
