Principals Message

Dear White Oaks Families,

Many students just finished a three-part series with White Oaks moms and clinical therapists, Taylor Simon, MFT and Minji Enemark, LCSW. The program taught your child about the importance of prioritizing mental health and understanding the connection between our brains, emotions, and behaviors.

Through puppet play, art, body movement and storytelling, the therapists normalized talking about feelings. The kids learned to identify feelings in their body (clenched jaw, stomach pain, etc.) and how these physical signs give them clues about their emotions. They learned easy but effective coping skills to address their big feelings. In the last and most recent session, children were encouraged to ask for support from a trusted adult if they ever experienced big feelings that didn’t seem to resolve with their coping strategies.

Please check in with your child to ask about what they learned. You may also want to check out this blog post about emotional intelligence in young children.

Warmly,
Leah Scholer
Principal

Thank you, San Carlos school community! Whether you donated an auction item, bought a raffle ticket, attended the Virtual Gala or participated in the online auction, you helped us get closer to our $3.7 million goal, which will fund critical educator positions and important PTA programs next school year.

Special thanks to our Fund-the-Future of STEM Education matching donors — Presidio Bay VenturesAlexandria Real Estate Equities, and the HandisidesStabinskyRaymond, and Quigley families — and all of the individual donors to the fund. To date, we’ve raised over $130,000 for this effort. Please visit scefkids.org/ftf2023 today to watch our video and make a contribution.

Strong participation by so many in San Carlos — parents, businesses, community members, and alumni families — is a great reminder of the VALUE that is placed on our local public schools. Thank you for your continued support!

Safe Routes to School Parent/Caregiver Survey Open Until Apr. 15

Please take a few minutes to share how your student/s travel to school! The Safe Routes to School Parent/Caregiver Survey provides valuable feedback on what programs and infrastructure projects are needed to encourage students and families to use active transportation to and from school. Access the English survey (also in Spanish and Chinese).

Your feedback allows us to adjust Safe Routes to School (SRTS) education and encouragement program features to best meet the needs of each individual school.
