Principals Message

Dear White Oaks families,

It is hard to believe that this is my last message of 2022. We are only a few days away from a well-deserved couple of weeks off for both students and teachers. This is a great time for everyone to recharge their batteries and come back ready for school in January.

As a reminder, Thursday, Dec. 22 is a minimum day for all students. All students (including early/late bird K students) will attend school from 8:25-12:25 p.m. There will be no school Fri., Dec. 23 - Mon., Jan. 9. School will resume on Tues., Jan. 10 on a normal schedule.

I am hoping during our two-week break, your children have opportunities to continue learning and exploring the world. Whether it’s digging in a park or backyard or visiting a museum or reading new books from the library, there are various ways students can be challenged to ask and investigate new wonders. Here are some activities and resources to explore:

I am so grateful to come to work every day and work with such a great group of people: talented educators, engaged students, and supportive parents and community members. I wish you all a happy holiday season and a joyous New Year! My New Year’s wish for our students is to look forward to the upcoming year with confidence and courage, and be prepared to fill a book’s empty pages with all of their wishes and dreams!

Last Reminder: Any Lost and Found Items Left After Dec. 20th Will Be Donated!

Our lost and found is overflowing. Please stop by and look through the items to see if you recognize any missing items from your son or daughter’s closet. Anything left after December 20th will be donated to a local charity. In the future, please label jackets and sweatshirts with your child’s name so that they can find their way back to you.

All the Best,
Leah Scholer
Principal

PTA News

Thank You City of San Carlos for Safe School Commutes!

Since 2015, the City of San Carlos has partnered with the San Carlos School District (SCSD) to support a crossing guard program to help students get to school safely. Over the years, this expense has been shared by the City, the SCSD and local school PTAs funded by parent donations. Recently, the City assumed full financial support for this program! This support represents $252,500 for Fiscal Year 2022-23.

The San Carlos PTAs would like to thank The City of San Carlos for this substantial investment in programs that support safe routes to school for students in San Carlos.

Every Donation Helps

I Am SCEF Video
Check out the 3rd video in the series and hear our community speak to the impact of SCEF.

Your Dollars at Work
Thanks to the generous donations from parents and community members, SCEF was able to supplement the budget of every San Carlos public school. You can see your dollars at work in the K-8 music programs, library services, social-emotional counseling, and elementary PE. Your donations also allow for smaller K-3 class sizes, technology devices, applications and tech associates and provide a principal fund to support the needs of each campus. NEW THIS YEAR, your donations to SCEF are funding the activities of your school PTA.

If you haven’t made your annual fund gift, please consider donating by 12/31/22. If you are planning on making a Donor Advised Fund or Stock gift, please initiate it now as it can take up to 2 weeks for these gifts to be received by our office. To learn about the many ways to give, visit our website.

COVID Reminders and Testing Options

If your child is experiencing symptoms, please keep them home and give them a rapid antigen test. Staying home when sick can lower the risk of spreading infectious diseases to other people and testing remains a key mitigation layer to detect and curb transmission of COVID-19.  If your child tests positive for COVID-19 or your household is in need of additional test kits, please contact your school site as soon as possible.
