From the Principal
Dear White Oaks families,
Thank you all so very much for your support this past week with our COVID protocols and safety measures. Thank you for picking up your student’s COVID test and getting regular testing when you discovered an exposure or returned from travel. Thank you for keeping us informed by reporting positive results and close exposures, which is helping us keep our students and staff safe and healthy. Most of all, thank you for your patience in all of this. Our nurses, teachers, and administrative assistant have been swamped with phone calls and emails, and have done their very best to reply in a timely manner and get you the information you need. We know it can be frustrating and confusing when the information seems contradictory or is ever-changing. We are in this together as a school community, and I appreciate you greatly. Also, a big shoutout to our White Oaks students. They have been rock stars in wearing their masks properly and regularly washing their hands.
Already Planning for Next Year
With all that is going on right now with this current COVID surge, I’m excited to be looking forward to next year’s registration already! New Student Priority Registration for all students (TK-8th grade) opened last Tuesday, Jan. 11, and closes Feb. 11. If you missed our Virtual TK/Kindergarten Information Night last week, you may view the presentation slides here and watch the recording on Vimeo here.
I will be conducting my (virtual) school tour this year on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. Then, in early May, we will offer our White Oaks TK/Kindergarten Orientation to give families a deeper look into our TK and Kindergarten program. If you know of anyone who is interested in this tour, please share this sign-up form so they can receive the Zoom link directly.
Additionally, registration for the SMARTE Afterschool Clubhouse for the 2022-23 school year started last week. See below under District News and Events for more information.
It feels great looking ahead, and I feel optimistic about the coming year and also about what I’m hearing of this surge coming to an end soon.

Jan. 23: Author Event with Kate Robinson
This is an event for the whole family and educators! We are thrilled to announce our SCEF author event with Kate Robinson, author and daughter of Sir Ken Robinson. In the years before he died, Sir Ken had been working on a manifesto, a short book that would pull together all of his key arguments and serve as a call to action for the education revolution he spent his life advocating for. His wish was for his daughter to complete and publish the book after his death. This incredible book, Imagine If … Creating a Future for Us All, will be out March 1 and is available to preorder. We are honored to have Kate join us live from London via Zoom for a Family and Educator Event to talk to us about writing, love of reading, the power of imagination, and her book. Participants are invited to send in questions for Kate beforehand by emailing [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you there. Join via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/

ROPES Judges Needed!
We are looking for parents and community members that would like to serve as a judge for the ROPES (Rite of Passage Experiences). ROPES are challenging projects that 4th-, 6th- and 8th-grade students have completed that allow them to learn about their world and themselves in deeper but fun way.
There are 3 opportunities to judge:

- Wednesday, Feb. 9: 2-5 p.m.
