White Oaks Weekly - May 16, 2021

From the Principal

Dear White Oaks Families,

I cannot believe we are in our last month of school! What a journey this year has been. The last day of school is Thursday, June 10th and since this is a minimum day, we will be having a modified cohort schedule:

Cohort A: 8:20-10am

Cohort B: 10:50-12:30pm

Third Grade Clap Out
Our third-grade cohorts will be doing a rendition of their annual Clap Out celebration within their cohort time. They will "Alligator Stomp" throughout the campus and end their route on the blacktop for socially distanced popsicle treats with their cohort. Students will then be dismissed to their pick-up zones and we will be sure to share pictures and videos with parents. We would like to thank our fabulous PTA and third-grade teachers for the incredible plan they have put together to make this a very special send-off for our oldest students.

Chromebook/Device Return
If your child has a school-issued Chromebook and/or hotspot at home, please return the device(s) during one of the times below. There will be tables outside the office (entrance on Fairmont Street) where you can deposit the devices and sign a form indicating you've returned everything for the year.

Drop Off Times:

Wednesday, June 9: 1:30-4pm

Thursday, June 10: 8:30am-3:30pm

Friday, June 11: 8:30am-3:30pm

With warmest regards,

Leah Scholer, Principal

Sign up to Be a Buddy Family for New Families!
As we get closer to summer, we wanted to reach out and encourage families to sign up to be Kinder Family Buddies. Kinder Family Buddies are a resource in case there are any questions over the summer and/or at the beginning of the year. First time families often have questions or just have normal jitters, and having a particular person/family to talk to helps a lot. This is a great way to help our newest members of our community join our White Oaks family. Please fill out this form here to sign up to be a Kinder Family Buddy.

In-N-Out Books – Wednesday
Please join us at the pop-up library this Wednesday between 1:30 and 2:30pm. We have plenty of books to choose from. White Oaks alumni (4th & 5th Graders) are welcome too. We’re always looking for volunteers. If you’re able, please sign up here

SCEF News and Events

The Power of Matching; Double Your Impact
We are $700K away from our $3 million goal. Please consider making or finalizing your annual fund contributions by May 31, 2021 to help us prepare for a robust 2021-22 school year! While our fundraising year officially ends on June 30, we strive to ‘Make It Happen in May’ so that SCEF can provide our school leadership with a reliable estimated grant amount to aid in their budget planning for next school year.

If your employer doesn’t match, now is your chance to double your donation! SCEF Business Sponsors Premia Capital & Prince St. Partners have funded a matching pool of $100,000 for all donations made before May 31. Please consider making a gift today to take advantage of this generous offer.

If your employer does match, remember to donate via workplace giving. It is especially important to make your gift now if you donate via your employer’s workplace giving program. It often takes up to 8 weeks for these donations to make their way to SCEF. Stock donations and Donor-Advised Fund gifts are welcome too. Contact [email protected] for more information.

Nursing Notes - COVID-19 Protocol Reminders for All Families
Please keep your child and all siblings home if anyone in your household is sick.

Please remember to contact your school site if someone in your household tests positive for COVID-19 or if your child has been in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19. Our district nurses are here to help support you in understanding quarantine lengths and ways for getting your student back to school as quickly as possible within the county health guidelines.

Student and Community Testing to Keep our Kids On Campus
Please take advantage of the no cost surveillance COVID-19 testing provided by the San Mateo County Health Department.

Please sign up for weekly testing for yourself and your child. Contact your health provider for a test if you have symptoms or know you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19.

Keeping COVID cases off of our campuses will keep our in person learning possible. As a reminder, if a student or or teacher tests positive for COVID, we will need to transition that cohort back to distance learning for at least two weeks to avoid spreading the virus.

Sign up at one of the following locations to begin your regular weekly testing:

Legarza Summer Camps
Legarza Basketball, All-Sports, and Volleyball programs give children the knowledge and motivation they need to achieve their personal best in sport and life. Our program is tailored to help your young athlete succeed on and off the court in a safe, professional and encouraging environment of learning and fun.

Summer programs are now enrolling at www.legarzasports.org. We will be offering morning, afternoon, and all day programs weekly from June through August.

Steve & Kate's Summer Camp
At Steve & Kate’s Camp, kids take chances and take charge, shaping their day, their way. More choices and fewer expectations creates more possibilities, more self-trust, and less self-doubt.

Campers will choose an interest-based, pod-like group, called a Squad. At camp, children will gather with their fellow enthusiasts to immerse themselves in activities, or pursue projects with an emphasis that speaks to their tastes. Squad specialties include sewing, building, performing arts, coding and gaming, sports & recreation, or a mix of everything!

Within squads, campers decide what they want to do, with whom, and for and how long. Whether one is spending the day sampling all activities, or honing in on sewing skills to redesign their entire wardrobe, one thing is for sure: kids are in control.

Campers will also have the opportunity to enjoy outdoor classes, socially distanced indoor and outdoor recreation, performances, fan-favorites like Gameshow, gaga, and wacky or wet inflatables, and a circuit of rotating activities featuring arcade games, clay, sewing, and more.

We’ve also got plenty of perks for parents. Lunch and snacks are included daily, and there’s no risk if your plans change. At the end of the summer, if you have any leftover purchased Day Passes, we’ll refund them in full, automatically.

Dates: June 14 - July 30 - Summer 2021
Ages: Ages 4-12
Location: Arundel Elementary School
