From the Principal
Dear White Oaks Families,
Wow! I wasn’t sure how we would get to Thanksgiving break, but here we are! This is certainly the year to count our blessings and be thankful for all we still have, despite all that has been lost. I think I’ve mentioned before that it is the little things that count and boy, does that mean more now than ever before! This is the first year I’ve been truly appreciative of blue sky, clean air, my health and my family’s health. No longer do I take for granted the fact that I genuinely love the people I work with (that includes teachers, staff, students and parents!)
Being grateful can have a tremendous impact on your child's mindset as they navigate through life. Our White Oaks Gratitude Tree has been growing is full of color and thankful-ness. If you haven’t had a chance to add a leaf yet, it will still be up through the Thanksgiving holiday.
As Thanksgiving is also the time to give support to those who need it, our Health and Wellness department has teamed up with Bay Areas resources and has put them all in one place for you to access whenever needed. The SCSD Pandemic Care and Support website has just what you need to keep you going with timely support and numerous resources. Please take a moment to explore the information and bookmark it for future reference.
The San Carlos PTA Coordinating Council is also collecting grocery e-gift cards to support our fellow San Carlos District families who are experiencing food insecurity this holiday season. Click here to donate, scan the QR code on the image below to purchase a Safeway e-gift card or email PTACC at [email protected].
Return to School Update
If you haven’t already, please save the date on December 2 at 7:30pm for a virtual evening presentation that will provide you with additional information about our planned return to campus procedures. Meeting link (Welcome Wednesday link) and supporting materials will be emailed closer to the date.
I hope you all are able to take time this next week away from the screen and just BE. Have a family game night, take a night hike (and bundle up!), play a scavenger game around the house, and maybe, just maybe, take some time for yourself.
Warmly and with Gratitude,
Leah Scholer, Principal

SCEF News and Events
As we enter into our fundraising season, we wanted to thank you for your continued support. There are so many BIG and little ways to contribute to SCEF and the work it takes to keep our local public schools funded and vibrant.
Here are some great ways to support SCEF:
Shop Local
Please remember to thank our local merchants and restaurants who are SCEF supporters. We count on many local business sponsors each year to reach our goal. See our shopping guide here.
Honey Bear Christmas Trees
Honey Bear Trees is again coming to our area this Christmas season and offering SCEF a donation for every tree purchased when you mention SCEF. There is more information available here.
Support SCEF as you Shop on Amazon
SmileAmazon is a great way to support SCEF while doing all your online shopping. Visit the Smile Amazon and choose “San Carlos Education Foundation,” and Amazon will donate a portion of each purchase to SCEF. It’s super easy and works on both desktop and mobile purchases.
Gift Appreciated Stock
By donating stock that has appreciated for more than a year, you are actually giving 20 percent more than if you sold the stock and then made a cash donation. The reason is simple: avoiding capital gains taxes, see more information from here.

San Carlos Housing 2040 Workshop - Nov 30
Those of us living in the Bay Area are well aware of the cost of housing. As the cost of housing has risen throughout the Bay Area, increasing numbers of people are finding it difficult to pay rent or make monthly mortgage payments. San Carlos is not immune to the crisis and has experienced an unprecedented surge in the growth of home prices and rental rates. San Carlos is committed to addressing the housing needs of everyone in our community to ensure that the City is more inclusive for people of all incomes, and having more housing choices that suit all stages of life.
To address the underpinnings of these housing challenges, the City is embarking on updating the Housing Element, which is a policy document that will guide housing decisions for the next 8 years. The City is inviting all community members to come together virtually and have a meaningful exchange, share ideas, and express concerns.
Register at https://sancarlos2040.eventbrite.com for the virtual workshop scheduled for November 30 from 6:30-8:30pm. The Eventbrite link will have more information on how to participate.
