White Oaks Weekly - August 23, 2020

From the Principal

Dear White Oaks Families,

Thank you for participating in our Welcome Week activities last week and taking the time to connect with White Oaks! We would like to invite you to a few other events to orient your family to the school year, build community, and share information with you.

I learned yesterday that Sir Ken Robinson passed away and I am so saddened to know we have lost such an inspirational and passionate spirit. In honor of this amazing man, I’d like to share my favorite Tedtalk of his, Bring on the Learning Revolution! Every time I watch it, I am reinvigorated and excited for the possibilities ahead in education, no matter the situation we are in. I would love to engage our community in more conversations about how we can seize Distance Learning as an opportunity to truly create a learning experience for our students that is revolutionary. Keep an eye out for Parent Ed nights to come!

Back to School Night - Wednesday, August 26
Instead of doing two (a Principal’s and Teacher’s), each teacher will be sharing a message from me, our PTA, and SCEF during their classroom presentations along with more class information, routines and expectations, and other news for the upcoming year.

Grade Level/Time:

  • TK: 6pm
  • Kindergarten - First Grade: 6:30pm
  • Second Grade - Third Grade: 7pm

**Friday, August 28 will be a minimum day schedule with teacher instruction concluding at 12:30pm due to Back to School Night

Welcome Wednesdays
We will be having our first LIVE Welcome Wednesday this week on 8/26 at 8:45am. Here is a link to add the White Oaks Google Calendar to your personal calendar. This way, you will be able to log on every Wednesday without having to search for a link. I will be sending a calendar invite to all of our student email accounts as well as another email reminder for our first Welcome Wednesday as the date gets closer. Students will first log in to our Welcome Wednesday Zoom and then afterward, join their class Zoom for their morning meeting each Wednesday.

Safety
Whenever you are planning a trip to campus,  please remember to fill out the student health screenerand take a moment to review our Students & Families COVID-19 Handout as it has specific guidelines intended to keep us as safe as possible during this time. It was wonderful to see so many friendly faces wearing masks during the materials distribution on Friday.

PE
We are thrilled to announce a partnership with our beloved Legarza PE teachers who will be providing PE for your students two times per week in a live session! This allows us to continue to encourage an active lifestyle while we are distance learning and have some fun as well! Our schedule begins this week so let's lace up those sneakers, White Oaks!

I am looking forward to connecting with you this week with our Back to School events and wish your family a wonderful first full week of learning, building relationships with our stellar teaching staff, and getting settled into school from a distance!

Sincerely,

Leah Scholer, Principal

Why is Your Membership Important?
Members play a role in decision-making at our monthly White Oaks PTA Meetings. Thank you for your support!

SCEF News

Thank You to Our Amazing Teachers, Staff and Administrators!
A BIG thank you to our amazing and resilient teachers, staff and administrators--a first week of school for the ages. They could not do what they are doing without YOUR support.

SCEF is constantly exploring ways we can impact and support the students and families in our schools. Please consider supporting our efforts through your workplace giving program, where you can make a one-time gift, or set up for a monthly recurring gift. If your employer doesn’t offer a charitable giving program, how about directly setting up a recurring gift to SCEF? Set up a monthly amount NOW that you are comfortable with and see how easy it is to meet our annual ask of $1500 per student. For example, $150/mo x 10 months (Sept-June) gets you to the “ask”, but whatever amount works for your family, we so appreciate!
