White Oaks Weekly - January 5, 2020

From the Principal

Dear Families,

Welcome back and happy New Year! I am proud to announce that White Oaks is being recognized as a 2020 California Distinguished School! The Distinguished Schools program recognizes schools based on performance and progress on the state indicators as specified on the California School Dashboard. Indicators include test scores, suspension rates, and conditions and climate. More than that, this award celebrates the tireless efforts of our amazing teachers, staff, and parents and honors the culture that has been cultivated here over many years. As Tony Thurmond, State Superintendent, stated in his press release, “These outstanding schools don’t just educate students; they also provide the young people of California the tools they need to be successful after graduation. Thanks go to all the staff at these schools—teachers, administrators, classified employees—and parents, who are working together to provide high-quality educational experiences for all of their students.”

Congratulations, White Oaks, this is well deserved!

Sincerely,

Leah Scholer, Principal

First Walk to School in 2020!
Reminder that this Wednesday, January 8, is our first Walk to School in 2020! We will be at school to pass out charms to our walkers, scooters, and bikers. Look for the balloons to find your charm. We still need a few volunteers to help pass out charms the first Wednesday of each month. Please email Shipeng Fu if you would like to volunteer.

ROPES Presentations are Coming and Judges are Needed!
We are looking for parents and community members that would like to serve as a judge for the ROPES (Rite of Passage Experiences) presentations in February. ROPES are challenging projects that 4th, 6th and 8th grade students have completed which allow them to learn about their world and themselves in a deeper but fun way.

There are 3 opportunities to judge:

Monday, Feb 3, 5:30pm – 8:30pm
Tuesday, Feb 4, 5:30pm – 8:30pm
Wednesday, Feb 5, 5:30pm – 8:30pm

We would not be able to maintain this valuable program without the support of our community. We are asking for you to join district staff and other community members by volunteering to serve as a judge on one of our judging panels. Typically, we have two to three judges per room and they judge four to six student presentations in an evening.
We hope that you will be able to join us in this worthwhile event.

If you are able to judge on any/all of those days, please contact Veronica Rickson either via email at [email protected] or by phone at 650-590-5926. Thank You!
