White Oaks Weekly - September 22, 2019

From the Principal

Dear Families,

We will continue our work in personalizing learning with Goal-setting Conferences from Wednesday, October 2nd - Tuesday, October 8th. This letter and chart went home during Back to School Night. Here are some highlights of what to expect during conferences:

Our Goals:

  • Increase rigor, student ownership, and engagement to support learning
  • Empower parents with early and ongoing feedback about student progress, as well as resources to help at home
  • Strengthen our students’ foundation for learning, using the SCSD Strategic Plan as our guide

What Parents Can Expect:

  • October 2nd-8th is conference week. All students will attend school from 8:30-12:35.
  • Teachers will share your child’s progress towards building their foundation for learning, which includes the 5 C’s and a Mindset for Learning. Evidence may be anecdotal and may be provided via discussion and/or student work
  • Teachers will ask for your input about your child’s goals
  • Teachers also will share information about the goal-setting conversations in the classroom, including the specific goal(s) your child set for him/herself

We look forward to partnering with you in our mission to help our young learners thrive, and we welcome your feedback and questions along the way.

Sincerely,

Leah Scholer, Principal

San Carlos Chickens' Ball
Celebrating 80 years of fundraising for our schools, Chickens’ Ball is the oldest PTA fundraiser in the nation. Our unique 2018 show raised over $40,000 for our schools through hilarious skits, song and dance. And we’re at it again! Join us to help plan our next Chickens’ Ball variety show. We need representatives from each school to participate as a liaison on our Steering Committee, enhancing communication and collaboration for this district wide event.

Steering Committee meetings are held once a month, typically the first week of each month. Our next meeting is Sunday, October 6. This is a special meeting that includes the tradition of reviewing the skit entries for the show.

Auditions to be a part of the show are October 24 (6:00pm) & 26 (10:00am) at Heather School.

Show dates are March 13, 14, 15 (matinee) and 20, 21 (two shows), 22 (matinee) at Central Middle School.

Thank you for helping us celebrate 80 years of fundraising for our kids by promoting and attending the Chickens' Ball.
