White Oaks Weekly - June 9, 2019

From the Principal

Dear Families,

Time flies when you’re having fun! It feels like just yesterday I was introducing myself to this amazing community and meeting you all for the first time. White Oaks quickly felt like home and I cannot believe we are already saying goodbye for the summer. What a year we have had! From building a brand new playground to installing our beautiful tile mural to visiting Egypt on Cultural Arts Day to dancing together at the Folk Dance, this has been a year to remember. I hope you all enjoy your family this summer. Read together, play together, and be sure to relax together! See you all next year!

Here are a few dates to mark on your calendar:

Last Day of School: Wednesday, June 12th
First Day of School: Wednesday, August 21st
Back to School Night: Thursday, August 29th
Minimum Day: Friday, August 30th (8:35 am-12:35 pm)

Check out these Summer Learning Resources (email sent home last Tuesday.)

Sincerely,

Leah Scholer, Principal

Request for Incoming Kinder Buddy Families
Do you remember when your child started kindergarten? Can you recall how helpful it was to meet a family who already knew the ropes at White Oaks and could answer your many questions? Please consider volunteering to serve as a buddy family, making an incoming kinder family feel welcome and letting them know that you can be a resource for them if they have any questions or concerns. Your connection and friendly face on campus make a difference!

To learn more about the program or to volunteer to be a buddy family, please contact Britta Ellis or Debbie Blucher. Thank you!

School Cleanup Thank You
White Oaks has been Kon-Maried and is less cluttered and more organized because of the effort. A big thank you to all of the parents and families who came to help out with this project. For those of you who like helping with cleanup and beautification on our school campus, mark your calendars to help with several White Oaks projects being planned for the San Carlos Day of Service on September 29, 2019.

Thanks to the Many PTA Program and Event Leaders Working Behind the Scenes
Parent/Teacher Services Volunteers - Thank you to all the parent volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the year on the many Parent/Teacher Services programs run by the PTA. And a special thank you to the program chairs: Carla Boggs as Head Room Parent, Andrea Mardesich for her work putting together the school directory, Angela Holloszy for managing BOTH Hospitality and the School Beautification/Green Team, and or course many thanks to our Staff Appreciation chairs, Karen Pachmayer, Lena Grodin, and Annie Stevenson for arranging the wonderful events to celebrate our amazing staff throughout the year. Thank you for all you have done for White Oaks this year!

Student Services Volunteers - A heartfelt thank you to all those who have taken the lead on the various programs that serve our students throughout the year. To Mary Rosen, Susan Rasiah, and all the Room Coordinators, Docents, and Helpers, we cannot thank you enough for your endless efforts in making Art-in-Action a success. To Katie Gallagher and Angela Holloszy for spearheading the 3rd Grade Garden, Natalie Joyce for her help as Healthy Cities Tutoring Site Coordinator, Erin Grant, for facilitating the Hot Lunch Program, Jennifer Larocque and Susan Raymond for making sure our third graders have never looked better in their 3rd Grade Promotion T-shirts, Catherine Dunne for coordinating the White Oaks Apparel and raising school spirit, Angela Holloszy for arranging assemblies for the students, Debbie Blucher for keeping our emergency kits up-to-date. And last, but certainly not least, to Nikki Reynolds and Trinity Murphy for the countless hours spent at every event throughout the year taking photos and laying out the White Oaks yearbook—truly giving the entire White Oaks Community a lasting memory.

PTA Executive Board - A very heartfelt thank you to the parents who volunteered this year as members of the PTA Executive Board. Your willingness to attend monthly meetings and oversee the functions of our PTA programs and events is essential and often goes unnoticed. Thank you again if you’re continuing and if you are interested in being a part of the PTA leadership next year - big or small - please contact Catherine Dunne, Parliamentarian or Britta Ellis/Debbie Blucher, Co-Presidents.

The entire White Oaks community has benefited from your actions, and for that we are truly grateful. THANK YOU ALL!

How Does SCEF Funding Impact Programs at Your School? Hear From Your WHITE OAKS Principal, Leah Scholer
In addition to the staff positions funded by SCEF this year, your donations to SCEF have been used to begin to fully integrate technology into the classrooms by purchasing a cart for our MacBooks currently in the computer lab, providing our primary grades with iPads, and installing TV monitors in classrooms, which have allowed teachers to use technology in new and engaging ways. SCEF also provided funding for a variety of field trips at White Oaks.

Our SCEF funds have also been used to help teachers collaborate and plan Project-Based-Learning projects in all grade levels. Everything from green energy to tidepools to bees are being explored by our TK-3rd grade students and it would not be possible without the support of SCEF!
