White Oaks Weekly - June 2, 2019

From the Principal

Dear Families,

We had an amazing turnout for Open House last Thursday. I absolutely loved seeing the smiles of pride on the students' faces as they shared projects with their families. Open House always holds a special place in my heart. The culmination of everyone’s hard work is finally presented and it is incredibly rewarding to take a step back and say, “Wow! Look how much we have learned this year!”

I would like to thank Mary Rosen and Susan Rasiah for organizing the Art in Action Show that took place in the MU during Open House. What fabulous pieces of art our children have created! Our PTA has made it possible for these art lessons to take place in the classrooms and I am so happy we got to celebrate this enriching program.

Sincerely,

Leah Scholer, Principal

Parent News from the School Counselor, Laura Macfarlane, LCSW

Dear White Oaks Parents,

I appreciate the opportunity I have working with your children and getting to know many of you during my two years at White Oaks. I will miss being here next year and wish this wonderful community well. Now onto some ideas for supporting your child’s social and emotional development over the summer months and beyond.

You may be familiar with the work of Challenge Success, a non-profit affiliated with Stanford University. One of their missions is to help families prioritize Playtime,Downtime and Family time (PDF). Research supports their recommendation that children need all three on a daily basis for healthy development. Here is a guide to how Challenge Success defines PlaytimeDowntime and Family time (PDF) and practical tips for incorporating all three into family life. Does PDF sound like something you would like to prioritize this summer?
