White Oaks Weekly - April 21, 2019

From the Principal

Dear Families,

Our Strategic Plan Survey results are in! 336 parents/guardians completed our family survey this school year, and White Oaks continues to receive a high percentage of favorable responses that exceed the district average in the areas of Communication, Engagement, 21st Century Skills, Safety, Learning Environment, Expectation and Rigor, and Homework.

In many areas, 90% or more of responses were favorable. Here are some of the highlights:

  • I am encouraged to be involved in my child’s school (96%)
  • My child’s school is a caring and nurturing place (98%)
  • My child’s school has a positive and motivating atmosphere (98%)
  • My child is getting a good education at this school (93%)
  • My child’s school is safe (93%)
  • I receive effective communication from my child’s school (91%)

Areas for Continued Conversations
Family responses also highlighted a need for continued conversations in some areas. We are considering these topics as we set goals and plan budgets for the school year ahead:

  • How homework supports personalized learning, including the development of study skills and work habits
  • How we encompass the whole child and ensure we maintain a balance between technology and the continued development of social and emotional skills.
  • Parent education in the following areas: social-emotional learning, supporting student learning in math, and understanding the Next Generation Science Standards

If you would like more information, or to engage in our next conversation to review survey results, please join us at the next White Oaks Site Council meeting on Thursday, April 25, 2019, from 3:00-4:00 pm in the library or reach out to me directly.

Sincerely,

Leah Scholer, Principal
