White Oaks Weekly - March 10, 2019

From the Principal

Dear Families,

Each spring, we reflect on progress towards goals and set new goals for the upcoming school year as part of the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). Conversations occur at staff meetings, School Site Council meetings, and PTA meetings throughout the winter and early spring. In addition, we analyze staff, student, and family survey data collected through the Panorama Education Strategic Plan Survey. Thank you to the families who participated in this year’s survey.

If you’d like to participate in this month’s LCAP reflections, please join me at our School Site Council meeting on Thursday, March 21st at 3:00 pm in the library or reach out to me for a conversation.

Your feedback is valued as we determine our next steps in support of excellence and student engagement at White Oaks School.

Sincerely,

Leah Scholer, Principal

Ability Awareness Week - March 18-22, 2019

The mission of Ability Awareness week throughout the San Carlos School District is to promote understanding, acceptance and appreciation of individual learning and ability differences through fun, experiential activities.

Students will be engaging in various activities throughout the week giving them a chance to experience what it is like to complete a basic task while having a learning or developmental difference. Students will all have a set of common experiences through activities already taking place on campus to spark discussion, increased understanding and compassion.

Some of the highlights of what will be happening in our school this week include a section of our school library dedicated to Ability Awareness, "Learn Your Name in Sign Language" posters, Legarza PE coaches creating "Ability Stations," school counselor-led sessions in classes that relate to compassion and inclusion, a variety of other classroom lessons and activities taught by teachers on what it is like to have a learning or developmental difference. There will also be various assemblies including a special puppet show, a performance by the College of Adaptive Arts, a visit from Guide Dogs for the Blind - Puppies in Training, and also Canine Companions.

2020 San Carlos Chickens’ Ball
What is the San Carlos Chickens’ Ball?
It's a fundraiser for San Carlos Schools, a community builder, and a show with a rousing opener, skits, entr'actes, and a dazzling finale! The melodrama skits and the variety skits must be based on a nugget of history in the time of the San Francisco Barbary Coast (1890 to 1918). Turn of the Century theatrics, sets, and costumes add mightily to the entertainment! Fanciful entr'actes interpret contemporary works! Since 1940, everyone has been invited to “Come play with us in the Chickens’ Ball!”

Website: www.chickensball.org
Facebook: San Carlos Chickens' Ball
Email: [email protected]

Want to be involved? Email [email protected]. School liasons, musicians, actors, singers, dancers, extras, set and costume designers, set builders and painters, those who sew, stage crew, etc. ALL are welcome. Come join the fun and the unique San Carlos time honored tradition!
