White Oaks Weekly - March 3, 2019

From the Principal

Dear Families,

Our new playground is open! It was so rewarding to see all those little faces light up with joy and excitement as they finally got to play on the new structure. Students were also given an opportunity to nominate a name for our playground, which will be revealed at our Welcome Ceremony this coming Wednesday, March 6th at 8:30 am.

I want to thank everyone for your patience throughout this project, your generosity in helping fund the new playground, and your support in keeping our students safe. What an accomplishment for our community!

Sincerely,

Leah Scholer, Principal

Parent News from the School Counselor - Laura Macfarlane, LCSW
Your children are learning social and emotional skills through regular classroom lessons and reinforcement throughout the school day. Currently, our second and third-grade students are focusing on empathy and how to put it into action in their daily interactions. Our TK, K and first graders are learning about hidden rules and expected and unexpected behaviors. This is part of our We Thinkers Social Thinking curriculum. If you want to know more about the curriculum and how to support your child in understanding expected and unexpected behaviors, check out these links.

Hey, Batter, Batter, SWING!!!

White Oaks Families, ready to watch some baseball? This year, we’re hosting our annual ALL FAMILY baseball event to watch the Stanford Cardinals take on the Utah Utes on Sunday, 3/24 at 1:00PM! We’ll gather at the Stanford home game a little early, because WHITE OAKS will be eligible for some special pre-game fun – our students will get to sing the National Anthem on the field with the players! Exclusive to White Oaks, some lucky student raffle winners will get to throw the first pitch of the game, meet the starting 9 Cardinal players, and announce the players during the 3rd inning over the loudspeaker.

Please look in your child’s Green Folder this week for the Family Fun Day flyer. You’ll find details about the game, and the raffle entry forms. Raffle entries can be submitted to the White Oaks Office.

*** It happens to be PUP day at the Sunken Diamond. If you'd like to bring your pup, please make sure they are on a leash. If dogs aren't your thing, reserve a ticket in section 7. We are hoping White Oak families will reserve in section 7, 8 and 9.***

2020 San Carlos Chickens’ Ball
What is the San Carlos Chickens’ Ball?
It's a fundraiser for San Carlos Schools, a community builder, and a show with a rousing opener, skits, entr'actes, and a dazzling finale! The melodrama skits and the variety skits must be based on a nugget of history in the time of the San Francisco Barbary Coast (1890 to 1918). Turn of the Century theatrics, sets, and costumes add mightily to the entertainment! Fanciful entr'actes interpret contemporary works! Since 1940, everyone has been invited to “Come play with us in the Chickens’ Ball!”

Website: www.chickensball.org
Facebook: San Carlos Chickens' Ball
Email: [email protected]

Want to be involved? Email [email protected]. School liasons, musicians, actors, singers, dancers, extras, set and costume designers, set builders and painters, those who sew, stage crew, etc. ALL are welcome. Come join the fun and the unique San Carlos time honored tradition!
