Principals Message

Dear White Oaks Families,

I am delighted to welcome you to the new school year. The teachers and I are eager and excited to embark on a new year filled with connection, curiosity and growth. We’ll do all of this with a Culture of Care!

Last week, I attended the administrators’ retreat with Superintendent Frentress and district and school leaders. We connected, discussed the Learner Profile, reviewed data and planned for the year.  I am inspired and motivated to lead with this incredible group of educators.

Sending out a HUGE thanks to the White Oaks Team who are preparing to open our school environment to welcome students.

  • Our custodians, Jesus Muñoz and Juan Cruz,  as well as our district maintenance team who are making sure White Oaks is clean, tidy, and ready for classes to begin.

  • Our administrative assistant, Annie Stevenson, is making sure that our teachers, staff, parents and I are supported to start off strong!

  • Our counselor, Vivian Garlick, is working with teachers on ensuring that students are supported well with Social Emotional lessons and tools starting from Day 1.

  • Our PTA President Hera Kan and I have met to discuss projects, events, and all things good for kids! We are looking for a PTA Co-President. Please let me know if you’re interested in partnering! Talking it through with me is not a commitment. I love partnering with parents and can’t wait to do the same with all of you this year!

  • Lastly, A HUGE SHOUTOUT to all the voters of San Carlos for voting in Measure H that funded our Heating, Ventilation, Air Condition system. Thanks to our community’s investment, these upgraded facilities modernize learning environments, enhance campus safety, and improve accessibility for generations of SCSD students to come. Your children will see and feel a noticeable difference with our upgrades! You will see the transformation of our campus.  THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Every Day Counts! The Importance of Regular Attendance: Building a Strong Foundation for Success

Did you know that student attendance is one of the strongest predictors of academic success? Missing just 10% of the school year—about 15 days—can have a significant impact on your child’s performance. By 6th grade, chronic absenteeism becomes a major warning sign for potential high school dropout. Let’s work together to ensure your child attends school regularly!

Consistent attendance is crucial for developing strong reading and math skills, establishing positive habits, and laying the groundwork for future success in college and careers. Missing school not only disrupts academic progress but also affects social and emotional growth. If your child is sick, please contact our school administrative assistant. If you’re facing challenges getting your child to school, don’t hesitate to reach out to the Principal—we’re here to help.

Additional Resources: Explore these helpful tools from Attendance Works, including a Student Success Plan.

 SCEF News

THANK YOU to our generous donors and WELCOME to all new families! Thanks to your generosity last year, the San Carlos Education Foundation (SCEF) is already putting grants to work for every San Carlos public school student this year. To our returning donors, thank you. To our new families, welcome, we're so glad you're here.

Why does San Carlos need an education foundation? Grab your coffee (or tea) and press play on this 18-minute video that breaks down California school funding and why SCEF, and local parcel taxes, matter so much to keeping our schools strong.

Curious what your donation actually does? Watch this short video to see it in action: from funding additional educators to supporting your school's PTA, your gift shows up for students every single day. Then check out all the Ways to Give and pencil in your donation for this year.

Here's to a great year ahead!

 PTA News

Welcome from your PTA

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year at White Oaks. We hope you had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to a fantastic school year! The White Oaks PTA is incredibly grateful to our incomparable teachers and staff for all the hard work they have put into the start of school.

This year, the PTA's goal is to provide opportunities for our children to grow in and outside the classroom, create space for our families to build meaningful connections, and support the wonderful work already happening on campus. We look forward to working together this year to make White Oaks a vibrant place where our children and teachers love learning together every day. Whether you are a new or returning family, we hope you will join our PTA, reach out with new ideas, and attend our monthly meetings.

On Wednesday, August 19th, after you drop off your children for the first day of school, please stop by the MU for some coffee, snacks (and tissues). We will be there, alongside PTA board members and committee chairs, to share with you all the wonderful opportunities there are to engage this year. Come and learn more about the PTA, or just say hi! We’re excited to meet you!

To get started on the school year, we have 4 quick to-dos to get you up to speed on all things White Oaks and the PTA.

1. Subscribe to the White Oaks School Calendar: https://whiteoaks.scsdk8.org/apps/pages/Calendar

The calendar is kept up to date with all our school events, so sync it with your calendar app to have the most up-to-date information

2. Bookmark our PTA website: https://sites.google.com/view/white-oaks-pta/home

New this year, we have a PTA website! Here you can find all the information you might need about events, committees and how to sign up to volunteer and donate. We'd appreciate you taking a look, as it is a one-stop shop for all the ways you can get involved here on campus.

3. Fill out our volunteer form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfsZr2ThtnXYUwdGMdGhbV5NY0OK30V3mWkgJCmAjVSmaYs0g/viewform?usp=header

If you're ready to give some time to the PTA, browse the volunteer form to see all the ways big and small you might be able to give back to White Oaks.

4. Join the PTA: https://jointotem.com/ca/san-carlos/white-oaks-elementary-pta/join

PTA membership is a great way to let our school district, county, and state know that we care deeply about public education, and a great way to connect with White Oaks families!

Finally, we welcome any questions; please reach out! Email the PTA at

whiteoakselementary.pta@gmail.com

We are looking forward to an amazing year.
