White Oaks Weekly - December 15, 2019

From the Principal

Dear Families,

I wish you a wonderful winter break full of joy with family and friends. As you plan for the weeks ahead, you might be looking for new books to share with your child. Winter is a great time for a cozy family read aloud, and children of all ages benefit from time to think and talk about books together. Check out this list for some ideas. Also, keep an eye out for the Pajama Storytime event at the Reading Bug. That should be scheduled very soon. Happy reading!

Here are a few reminders for your calendar:

  • School will be closed December 20 – January 6
  • School resumes on Tuesday, January 7
  • School is closed on January 20 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

I look forward to welcoming students and families back to campus in 2020!

Sincerely,

Leah Scholer, Principal

PTA Appreciation
We would like to give a big thanks to our Holiday Store Team. Every year, this 40+ year old tradition kicks off the magic of the holiday season, and we are so grateful to Kirsten Kell, Sara Ting, Natalie Joyce, Paulo Dutra, and Kristen Azar for leading this wonderful White Oaks tradition. We also want to thank every single one of our family volunteers who took home projects and attended project parties as well as those who volunteered at the event. We also want to give thanks to our alumni who helped our young shoppers find the perfect gift. Happy Holidays!

Register for the School Play Beginning in January
We are happy to announce that White Oaks will again partner with the San Carlos Children's Theater for our annual spring play. Rehearsals will begin in January with main cast and chorus rehearsals taking place after school on Wednesdays. A detailed rehearsal schedule and play title will be emailed out in the next few weeks.
Main Cast: Priority will be given to 3rd graders and then open to 2nd graders. The chorus will be open to all grades. We can’t wait to get started on another incredible production!

First PTA Meeting of 2020!
Please mark your calendars and join us for our first PTA meeting of the new year. We will meet on January 8 at 7pm at Debbie Blucher's house. This is a very important meeting where we will discuss the upcoming parcel tax and receive a school update from our principal. Everyone is welcome and we would love to see you there.

2019-2020 Yearbook Orders Due This Week
White Oaks yearbooks are for sale! They can be purchased directly from the Jostens website. Yearbooks are $25 each, and the sales deadline is Thursday, December 19. Yearbooks are distributed the last week of school by your student's teacher. Most teachers give the students time to sign yearbooks, so don't let your child be left out!

ROPES Presentations are Coming and Judges are Needed!
We are looking for parents and community members that would like to serve as a judge for the ROPES (Rite of Passage Experiences) presentations in February. ROPES are challenging projects that 4th, 6th and 8th grade students have completed which allow them to learn about their world and themselves in a deeper but fun way.

There are 3 opportunities to judge:

Monday, Feb 3, 5:30pm – 8:30pm
Tuesday, Feb 4, 5:30pm – 8:30pm
Wednesday, Feb 5, 5:30pm – 8:30pm

We would not be able to maintain this valuable program without the support of our community. We are asking for you to join district staff and other community members by volunteering to serve as a judge on one of our judging panels. Typically, we have two to three judges per room and they judge four to six student presentations in an evening.
We hope that you will be able to join us in this worthwhile event.

If you are able to judge on any/all of those days, please contact Veronica Rickson either via email at [email protected] or by phone at 650-590-5926. Thank You!
