Dear White Oaks Families,
The San Carlos School District Caregiver Survey results are in! Eighty (80) parents/guardians completed our family survey this school year.
Your feedback is very valuable and helps us reflect on what we’re doing well and where we can continue to grow.
In many areas, 92% or more of responses were favorable. Here are some of the highlights:

92% agree that White Oaks provides high-quality instruction to their child.

95% agree that their child’s teachers are responsive to social and emotional needs.

98% agree that students are encouraged to care about how others feel.

92% agree that White Oaks motivates all students to learn.

Our 75th Founders’ Day is Wednesday, May 7th at 6:30 p.m. Please join us in celebrating this year's award recipients. This event is a time-honored tradition at White Oaks where we recognize those volunteers and staff members who have given countless hours to our school community. We are thrilled to announce this year's honorees: Lily Lam, Doug Okamoto, Regan Parker, Kim Arasato, Lisa Gonzales, and Leah Scholer. Our special event will take place inside the White Oaks MU and will feature entertainment from the White Oaks cast of “Wizard of Oz”. Please plan on joining us as we recognize the contributions of our award winners.

SCEF Celebrates the San Carlos Centennial at Hometown Days, Friday, May 16, 2025 beginning at 4 p.m.
Calling all student artists! SCEF will be celebrating the San Carlos Centennial at Hometown Days, Friday, May 16, 2025 beginning at 4 p.m. Andy Z and SCSD middle school jazz band & orchestra will perform and there will be activities (face painting, glitter tattoos & more) for children during the afternoon. Please join us! As part of the celebration we are seeking art submissions to be included in an amazing light show that will be projected on the Youth Center wall that evening. San Carlos United
San Carlos United will be holding tryouts for boys and girls born between 2007 and 2018 starting in May, 2025, for the Fall 2025 season. Players born in 2018 may try out for the 2017 teams.
If interested, please register online: http://www.sancarlosunited.org and a manager from the team will reach out to coordinate. We look forward to seeing you at the San Carlos United tryouts!


Downtown Streetscape Master Plan
The City of San Carlos is excited to share that the Downtown Streetscape Master Plan is ready for adoption and can be accessed HERE.
The Downtown Streetscape Master Plan is a key component of the broader Downtown Specific Plan project. The Downtown Streetscape Master Plan sets forth new designs for the downtown's entire street network, including new public plazas, and sets the stage for significant transformation of the downtown core.
The Public is invited to attend the following public hearing where consideration will be given to formally adopt the Downtown Streetscape Master Plan on April 28, 2025 at 7:00 p.m.: City Council Meeting to consider the PTC's recommendation to adopt the Downtown Streetscape Master Plan. The meeting will take place at City Hall, 600 Elm Street, 1st Floor, Council Chamber.

City of San Carlos Centennial Art Contest
The Centennial Art Contest is now open for submissions ending on May 9. Coloring sheets for elementary students are available online by visiting www.cityofsancarlos.org/
San Carlos youth and teens in grades 6-12 are also invited to showcase their talent by submitting original artwork illustrating the theme, “What San Carlos Means to You.” Submissions for the Art Contest are due with the attached submission form/flier no later than Friday, May 9 to the San Carlos Youth Center (1001 Chestnut Street).
The grand prize winner and the 1st - 3rd place winners of the Centennial Art Contest will receive a gift card and commemorative Centennial Hometown Days ribbon. Finalists will also be honored at the City Council Meeting on May 27, and have the opportunity to have their art displayed at City Hall May 19 through June 30.



Hometown Days Fun Run
Break out your running shoes! Registration is open for the Hometown Days Fun Run on Sunday, May 18, at 8:30 a.m. This is a family-friendly 5K/10K Fun Run. Registration is $35 for adults and $17 for children. Register early, as prices increase on May 1. Participants can register HERE.
AYSO Fall Season
Registration for the San Carlos AYSO Fall 2025 season is now open with programs for ages 3 to 18!! AYSO is a recreational soccer league focused on player development in a fun family environment. Younger ages play only on weekends while older ages have 1-2 practices during the week and a game on the weekend. All experience levels welcome! For more information and to register your player(s), go to our website.
We are also looking for parent/community volunteers to be coaches, referees, team managers, and Board members! This is a large community volunteer effort and is very rewarding to see our children have fun, get exercise, and gain new skills and friendships. Come join us on the pitch this fall!

It's the book everyone is talking about! We're excited to welcome Jenny Anderson and Rebecca Winthrop, PhD, authors of The Disengaged Teen: Helping Kids Learn Better, Feel Better, and Live Better (April 29).
How will AI impact teaching and learning? Join Sarah Levine, PhD, educator and assistant professor, Stanford Graduate School of Education, for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Classroom (April 30).
