Summer Learning Resources
As the end of the school year approaches, families often ask how to support student learning over the summer. Already, you are planning summer experiences that build knowledge, spark curiosity about the world, and help your child gain confidence. Riding bikes, hiking, visiting the public library, playing in the neighborhood, attending summer camp, playing board games as a family, and traveling outside of our city build knowledge and a sense of wonder. Reading books and discussing them together also develops rich language skills and fosters a love of literacy. In addition, the more relaxed summer schedule can be a wonderful time to build independence and confidence at all ages as children learn new skills such as tying shoes, and how to contribute to family chores.
In addition to all of that, if you are seeking tools to boost or just keep up academic skills, these resources from our school website may be motivating for your children. Also, you may want to check the list of Best Apps recommended by Common Sense Media.
I wish you a wonderful summer full of new memories and time with your family!

Goodbye, Mrs. Stephens and Ms. McGilloway
White Oaks will say goodbye to two valued staff members this spring: Shannon McGilloway, Counselor and Ali Stephens, RSP Teacher. We are so grateful for the dedication, professionalism and care that Ms. McGilloway and Mrs. Stephens brought to their roles. Both educators helped our students gain skills, make connections, and develop a sense of “I Can Do It-ness!” that made a daily difference. They will be missed, and we wish them the best in their new professional adventures.
Welcome, Ms. Macfarlane!
We will welcome Laura Macfarlane as our new school counselor this fall. Ms. Macfarlane brings many years of experience to this role, both as a school counselor and in a private practice where she specializes in working with children. She has worked in Boston, Portola Valley, San Carlos, and Redwood City. Ms. Macfarlane impressed our team with her interest in the early primary years and her eagerness to return to the school setting. We look forward to welcoming her to the White Oaks community this fall.

We would like to thank the PTA Executive Board and all who chaired the various programs within the Fundraising, Parent/Teacher Service, Special Events and Student Services programs this year. Your leadership was instrumental, and we thoroughly enjoyed working with you all. A final thank you to all of the volunteers who have contributed both in and out of the classroom—you have enriched our childrens’ lives and our school community. We also have valued the privilege of working closely with Mrs. Liner and Ms. Williams and appreciate all that they do for White Oaks. We wish everybody a rewarding and restful summer vacation!
A special thank you to Francesca Draughon for all her work all year in editing and organizing the WOW. She keeps us informed of all that is happening in our wonderful White Oaks community.
